Volumetric rate (per 1,000 gallons) based on 3-month (November, January and February)
winter average of water usage for Residential only.
Effective April 1, 2010 the City of Murphy began winter averaging for the purpose of calculating sewer charges on utility bills.  The sewer charges are based on water consumption averages for three months (November, January and February Billing).
The average consumption will be analyzed annually and new rates take effect the first of April each year.

The monthly sewer charges will be based on the average water usages for the months of November, January and February. See example below:

Averaging Months Used

Water Consumption Billed

Explanation

November

6,600 gallons used

December

7,500 gallons used

Exclude December’s usage

January

8,500 gallons used

February

8,300 gallons used

Total

23,400
(This is the total gallons used for the month’s averaged)

Divide the Total by 3
23,400 /3= 7,800 gallons

 7,800
 (average sewer gallons)

7,800 gallons X $3.44 per 1,000 gallons + $18 Base Fee = $44.83
(This will be the monthly sewer charge for the next year)

New customers to the system will be charged the City-wide residential average usage of 9,400 gallons until their own independent winter average has been established.
